The American Veterinary Medical Association is a long standing, non-profit organization that is your veterinary advocate. For well over 100 years, the AVMA has been promoting and advancing the veterinary industry through education, publications, accrediations, and so much more. Here are just a few fun things you might not know about the AVMA:

1. History

The AVMA started off in the 1800's with a mere 40 delegates, and has now graduated to over 86,500 members.

This year's AVMA convention in Boston will make its 152nd appearance. It is sure to be filled with exciting CE, hundreds of exhibitors, a Beach Boys concert, and time to run around to see the sights of Boston.

2. Member discounts

Members get to enjoy discounts on things like car rentals, clothing, and bank cards. More information on discounts can be found here

3. Gold standard of veterinary medicine

The AVMA doesn't not allow any Joe Schmo to open a college of veterinary medicine or veterinary technician school. They have strict guidelines that a school must follow to be accredited, meaning the school must provide top notch education.

4. Insurance programs

They also offer different insurance programs. From health and medical, to liability and even pet insurance, check out what they have to offer here.

5. Networking opportunities

With over 86,500 members, you must know that there are tons of networking opportunities here. The AVMA community has a bunch of opportunities to connect online and in person. More details can be found here.
